Hence, I am very happy to be given the opportunity to also do their new Renault RS01 programme. The car is great and I can\u2019t wait to get out on the track with it\u201d, Mendez said.<\/p>\n<p>Team boss Michael Zele is delighted that \u201cwe will get even more time to work with Andres. He is still young and very talented, and this way he can also learn a lot in sports car racing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mendez, whose father and grandfather were both racing drivers, began kart racing in 2008. Former F1 driver and LeMans winner Allan McNish discovered the teenager, and he was selected to join the Ferrari Driver Academy.<\/p>\n<p>The 22-year-old from Bogot\u00e1 gained early Formula experience in a Tatuus and also tested Formula Renault 2.0 cars, before joining IndyCar\u2019s third tier, the Star Mazda Championship, in 2012.
