INTERSERIE HOCKENHEIM WIN FOR MILAVEC

Peter Milavec took the wheel of the Zele-Racing Pilbeam Honda 2.0CN Sportscar during last week Interserie racemeeting at Hockenheim. After finishing race 1 on the top spot of the podium in the sportscar class, Peter suffered a failure of the rear wheelhub in race 2.

Milavec:“ Unfortunately we could not finish race 2 due to a technical problem on the real wheel, but we have seen that the Pilbeam is a very competitive car in race 1. I think we have lapped all our competitors. The car is easy to drive so you can have a lot of fun if you start to push a bit.“

GP2 TESTDAY DONINGTON

Zele-Racing has completed a successful testday with both GP2 cars recently at Donington Park GP circuit. Ideal weatherconditions provided perfect ambience for a private test with our drivers. Although the track was very slippery and dirty from a previous „Japfest“ driftsession and public testday, both drivers were lapping in the low 1min16sec before setting a days best laptime of 1min 15.88sec, which marked a 2.2 sec faster laptime than the official laprecord set by the great Ayrton Senna in the 1993 F1 race.

Michael Zele:“ We had a very productive day of testing today. Both cars completed the estimated mileage without even the smallest of technical glitches. Watching the cars going flat through the Craner Curves on the approach to the Old Hairpin is surely one of the most exciting things i´ve personally seen so far“.

MARJAN SMRDELJ ON THE PODIUM AT NOVO MESTO (SLO)

Zele-Racing customer and team truckie Marjan Smrdelj (SLO) finished 3rd overall at the GHD Gorjanci hillclimb in Novo Mesto SLO two weeks ago. In only his second attempt in the newly acquired Lola B02/50 Zytek KV, he finished ahead of Hermann Waldy (AUT), who finished 6th overall.

Well done! … from the Zele-Racing crew.

GEORG PLASA FATAL CRASH AT RIETI (IT)

A good friend is no longer between us.

German hillclimb racer Georg „Schorsch“ Plasa lost his life in a freak accident last sunday at Rieti (IT). He lost control of his new BMW „134“ touringcar at over 200kph and crashed heavily into solid rocks.

The european hillclimb family has lost one of the most sympathic, enthusiastic, friendly and skilled individuals…

Our thoughts are with his family and friends.

Rest in Peace, Schorsch…

NIC BREBSOM AND HERMANN WALDY ON THE WAY TO KITZECK

Zele-Racing customers Nicolas Brebsom (LUX) and Hermann Waldy (AUT) will both race at the Kitzeck / St.Andrä hillclimb event on the 16th and 17th July.

Nic Brembsom was suffering some OilP woes on his Zytek KV engine recently, which forced him to skip race 2 at Verzegnis. Following a dynotest and inspection of the engine at Zytek Motorsport in the UK, the problem seems to be resolved now and Nic is hoping for a good result in Styria this weekend.

Also Hermann Waldy is fully motivated and aiming for the top spot on the podium this weekend. This time the weatherforecast is more promising. Waldy, who was suffering rainshowers and even hail in the past racemeetings, will be facing strong competition from Vladimir Stankovic (SLO) and Laszlo Szasz (HUN).

WALDY SCORES FULL POINTS IN CZECH

The third round of the 2011 Austrian Hillclimb Championship was held in Usti nad Orlici (CZ) last weekend. Zele-Racing client Hermann Waldy brought some updates to the track and managed to score full points. Whilst the original Mugen exhaust layout prevented a better performance in the first two races this year, the new purpose built Judd  exhaust system delivered the expected performance.

Saturday practice was once again wet, which made it difficult to judge on the cars real performance. However raceday brought sunshine and blue skies for the first time this year. Whilst the track was still damp in some places during the sunday morning practice run, Waldy managed to clock the 4th best time overall.

Hermann Waldy:“ I don´t want to take any risk on this track. There´s too many trees close to the track and with the damp track it´s too easy to get it wrong. My target for this weekend is to be in the top 10 overall, this will allow us to score full points for the Austrian championship. My strongest competitors are not here, this makes life easier. We have a race every weekend now, so i don´t want to damage my car.“

With P6 overall Waldy had done enough, without taking risk. The next racemeeting will be the coming weekend at Verzengis (IT), where Hermann is aiming for a top-finish.

Michael Zele:“ The performance of car and engine is now where we wanted it to be. The exhaust system used by the Japanese team did not work with the Judd engine, therefore we had to bring an update as quick as we could. Now the power is where it should be and Hermann is reporting the engine being very driveable. Also the TC and paddleshift are working perfect now.“

ANOTHER CUSTOMER CAR FINISHED IN TIME

Just 1 week after crashing his World Series Dallara chassis at the Hungaroring, Walter Hille was able to collect the fully rebuilt and new painted racer. In just 5 days the Zele-Racing crew managed to strip the car completely, repair and paint the tub, reassemble and set up the car to full satifaction of its owner.

Walter Hille:“ I had quite a big shunt during private testing. I don´t really know what happened, but there was no time to react and avoid the crash. Unfortunately the impact caused damage to 3 corners of the car, the nose and wing got completely smashed and also the rear wing was a write off. I´m happy that my „baby“ looks as new again, as we´re testing again at Pannoniaring on the 30th and 31st.“

Michael Zele:“ Of course, it´s our job to do the best we can for our customers. This one was tricky, because we had to order parts, which arrived just in time to be able to assemble the suspension. I´m glad Mr. Hille is happy with the result.“

START FINISH WIN FOR ZUBER IN SPIELBERG

The dominance demonstrated during the Qualifying earlier today was impressively continued in the Interseries race 2 this afternoon. Dominator-man and Zele-Racing driver Andi Zuber lapped the whole 30 car field bar second placed austrian fellow Bernd Herndlhofer, who crossed the finish line just a wink of an eye before Zuber.

Andi Zuber:“ It was a funny race, because there´s at least 2 or 3 cars you have to overtake every single lap. It sometimes a bit dangerous too, because some cars are just like moving chicanes. The only more or less clear lap i had was the last one, where i set my best laptime of 1.19:568. The GP2 felt great and was well balanced.“

Peter Milavec came third in his F1 engined Lola T92/50 F3000. He got a drive thru penalty for jumpstarting off the line, but was still smiling on the podium.

Michael Zele:“ I am glad the car worked perfect. Obviousely it´s nice to win another race for us, but a bit more competition would not harm for the show.“

REDBULL RING QUALIFYING 2 REPORT

Zele-Racing driver Andi Zuber secured Poleposition for Race 2 of the Interseries in the second Qualifying session earlier today. With an impressive laptime of 1.19.755 (average speed 195,3 kph) he outqualified the opposition by over 5 seconds.

Michael Zele:“ Together with Andi we decided yesterday afternoon to use the GP2 for today´s Race 2. Anything else but the pole would have been a disappointment, really. We see this weekend as on opportunity to test our car. And of course it´s great in front of a home crowd to start the race from Pole.“

Andi Zuber:“ I only had 3 or 4 timed laps, but it´s so difficult to get a clear run with all the slower cars out there. Even in my fast lap i had to overtake 3 cars. I think there´s another couple of seconds in the used set of  tires, but we´ll see if we can improve the laptime with 50kg fuel on board.“

Race 2 at the RedBull Ring will start 4:50 p.m. today.
