Zele driver Tamas Kiss was stopped on his final flying lap in Friday’s qualifying for the AutoGP season closer at Brno by a red flag – caused by his own team mate
Returning to the Zele cockpit for the last event of the season, Kiss was not only highly motivated, but also lightning quick. The Hungarian improved his best time lap by lap and was on his way to the front row, when the session was abandoned. Of all people, Kiss’ teammate Josef Kral, who is giving his AutoGP debut on home soil this weekend, spun in the dying seconds of the session and since his car was stuck in the gravel, qualifying was red-flagged.
“It’s a pity, because Tamas was very fast. His section times were 0.7 seconds quicker than on his previous best lap, so the top spots were possible”, team boss Michael Zele said. Kiss will now start from P6, while Kral is 12th on the grid. Regardless, Zele was content with GP2 race winner Kral’s debut saying: “Josef did a good job though. He has to get used to the car, because AutoGP is certainly different to GP2. However, we have the pace, so we will be attacking tomorrow.”
