Klien joins Zele Racing for Renault Sport Trophy debut

Klien8_1759The former F1 ace will drive for the fellow Austrians at the season highlight in Le Mans

Christian Klien will run for Zele Racing at next weekend’s Renault Sport Trophy event in Le Mans. The former Formula One driver will replace 2013 AutoGP Champion Vittorio Ghirelli, who is taking a break.

“We have known Christian for some time and he has already been part of our AutoGP programme. He is in top shape and the RS01 should fit him perfectly” team boss Michael Zele is delighted about renewing the partnership.

This season, the 32-year-old racer has been competing in the FIA World Endurance and the Japanese Super GT championships.

Klien, who will team up with Belgian Gentleman driver Philippe Bourgois, can use Saturday’s Endurance Race to further accommodate to the French Supersportscar, in order to be all out attack in Sunday’s Elite Sprint race.

“I am looking forward to re-joining Zele Racing and debut in their Renault Sport Trophy programme. The new Renault Sport R.S.01 is a really cool car, which is very close to the prototypes I have been working with recently.”

“Moreover, Le Mans is an old school track I have had quite some success at. So I hope, I can quickly get used to the car,“ Klien is fully motivated.

In the second Zele car, Bas Schothorst and Colombian rookie Andrés Méndez will again battle for points.
