Zele leading in championship standings after season opener

The opening weekend of the 2015 AutoGP season went (nearly) perfect for Austrian outfit Zele Racing. Antonio Pizzonia won race 2 on Sunday securing himself the lead in the overall standings.

The Brazilian stormed from P7 to the front in the opening laps of the race and then cruised to victory in changing conditions. Thus, he also took revenge for race 1 the previous day, where he skittered off in the final lap to hand over certain victory to rival Facu Regalia.

“That was the right answer after Saturday’s race. I really wanted to win today and I am happy it worked out. That I have taken over the lead in the standings at the same time makes it even sweeter” the “Jungle Boy” said.

Thanks to Pizzonia’s displays (P2 & P1) as well as the good outings of Angolan Luis Sa Silva (P6 & P4) in the team’s second car, the Austrians are now also in command of the team standings.

Rookie Andres Mendez in the third Zele racer was able to improve his lap times massively over the three days and also scored points.

“We can be more than content with the weekend in Hungary. Of course, we should have won race 1, but we are leading in the championship after all“, team boss Michael Zele was delighted.

The next round of the AutoGP season is on May 23/24 at the British “Home of Motorracing” in Silverstone.
