Pizzonia qualifies on P3 at comeback

Pizza2Antonio Pizzonia made a great return to Auto GP coming third in qualifying for this weekend’s season closer in Estoril

Despite not having driven a single seater for two years, Pizzonia was spot on in qualifying for the AutoGP season closer in Estoril.

The Brazilian, who made his series debut in 2012 celebrating two straight victories in Curitba, placed his Zele racer on P3 for Sunday’s first run.

“It was great to be back in the car. I already felt good after free practice, so I went straight out on attack. I could have been a little quicker, but the second row is a good basis for the race”, Pizzonia said.

His teammate at the Austrian squad, Angolan rookie Luis Sa Silva, was less fortunate, as he suffered a sudden loss of power in Q1 and will start from P10.

Teamboss Michael Zele was “content overall. Considering that Tonho (Pizzonia) is back after two years, his lap times are very promising. We are sorry for Luis, but the fuel pump broke. We should be able to fix that for the race.”

Both races will be held on Sunday – starting 11:50 am and 6:30 pm local time – and broadcast live on Eurosport.
